This issue is now marked as fixed by Microsoft. A full fix was implemented at 21:30 GMT on 20/03/2025.

Incoming external mail sent during the outage may still be queued at the sender side, or may have timed out whilst the system was down. In cases where the email has timed out, the sender will have received a non-delivery report (bounce) to advise.

The issue regarding the receipt of external messages is in the recovery stage with emails now arriving from non hw.ac.uk senders. We will continue to monitor the situation and post a further update in due course.

Updated 20:45 20-03-25. The issue Microsoft identified early today persists. It has affected the receipt of email messages from senders outside the HWU. Messages sent internally to hw.ac.uk addresses are not affected. ** We have also received some reports during the day of issues sending to external contacts including other universities **.

We will update this page as the issue moves towards resolution.

The issue also prevents notifications being received from HW externally hosted services.
